Brigadeiro Recipe (with Vegan Version)

If you don’t know what a brigadeiro is yet, you might be missing out.
There is no exact translation, our Brazilian brigadeiros are unique.
They are bite-sized chocolate sweets, quite like bon-bons, truffles and fudge balls.
Ingredients
1 tin of sweetened condensed milk*
4 tablespoons of cocoa powder
2 tablespoons of butter*, plus more for rolling the balls
Chocolate sprinkles
Pinch of salt
Where is the coffee? Brigadeiro doesn't have coffee in its recipe. However, it is the perfect sweet bite with a strong cup of coffee.
Instructions
In a small saucepan mix the sweetened condensed milk, the cocoa powder, the salt and the butter.
Heat it over medium-low heat preferably using a stove, but microwave also works (use a suitable container).
Cook it, mixing constantly (this is important, otherwise it will burn!) until it thickens, it should have a ganache.
Reserve, letting it cool to room temperature.
Once the brigadeiro is cool, grease your hands with butter and roll the brigadeiros into little balls and roll them into the sprinkles.
*We think dairy free condensed milk and butter do not work very well with this recipe, so we recommend this vegan version:
Vegan / Dairy Free Quick Version
In Brazil, we also have a brigadeiro version that is softer, and we eat using a spoon, very scrumptious. This makes a great vegan/dairy free option!
Only two ingredients and no baking: just mix cocoa powder with sweetened coconut condensed milk until you have a silk texture.
That's it, creamy and delicious ready to eat!

Tip: You can top each spoonful with different sprinkles, nuts or even desiccated coconut.
